Essential iPad Applications

Just after the launch of iPad, App Store has plenty of iPad apps now. I am listing few of most beautiful iPad apps here. The list is not exhaustive, I will keep posting them as I get used to.

ABC Player:

One of the first TV apps in the store, and a promising start. It’s essentially a slick interface for the ABC video content you can already stream on their website, and it’s free.

iBooks

The iPad is like something out of a sci-fi movie. Or a comic book. Also, it  is a comic book. Excelsior! Free reader, paid comics.

Scrabble:

This is one of the apps early reviewers really flipped out about. Basically, it’s a very pretty, very animated version of Scrabble. And if you have an iPhone, you can use it as a letter tray. $10

WordPress:

Many of us have blogs or portfolios powered by WordPress, the WordPress iPad app lets you manage everything from the tablet.

Download them from App store on your iPad and have fun. They are one of the most beautiful iPad apps so far.  I will be posting more applications for ipad later.

Samsung Galaxy vs Apple iPad

As Samsung launches its tablet, the comparison its Apple counterpart is obvious.

From the beginning we have to say that Galaxy Tab is smaller than Apple one(9.7-inch), having just 7-inch TFT display. The screen resolution is also smaller, 1024 x 600 comparing with 1024 x 768 for the iPad, but this is not something you will notice. Smaller dimensions take effects on the weight of Samsung Tab, which is lighter, having 380 grams(iPad has 680 grams).

On the front of the Galaxy tablet is a 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat, while on the back is a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash perfect for recording HD video. Apple iPad doesn’t have any kind of camera, but this is expected in the next version.

Both processors have same  frequency, 1GHz,  Samsung has an ARM Cortex A8, while the iPadhas an Apple A4 chip. Storage has almost the same space on both tablets the difference is that Samsung one gives microSD card support, while Apple doesn’t. Galaxy tablet comes with 16/32GB on-board memory while iPad has 16/32/64GB. The only notable difference is at RAM:512 MB on Samsung device and 256 MB on the one Apple made.

On the connectivity side Galaxy Tab has just a small advantage over the iPad: Bluetooth 3.0. The rest of the features are the usual ones: GPRS3GWi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/nGPS and 3.5 mm jack port.

Samsung Galaxy Tab will be released this month and the estimated price is somewhere near$300-400(+ a monthly contract fee). The cheapest version of Apple iPad is available at $499.

iPad Applications, They rock.

Recently, I got hold of an iPad, which I am loving completely. The slick device is very useful and enjoyable for:

  • Browsing Web
  • Playing Games
  • Watching Videos
  • Emails

I don’t sound like Steve Jobs, do I? Well, I have been using this device for four months now and I have having fun doing almost anything on it. Its touch interface is just awesome(even better than iPhone).  The engineering with putting a nice keyboard on touch interface is just awesome.

There are many wonderful applications available in Appstore for iPad. I will be posting more on iPad stuff as I explore.
